About the Commission
The Archbishop’s Biomedical Ethics Commission began under the direction of Archbishop John Roach in the mid 1970s. Archbishop Roach called together a group of individuals in the medical and academic fields from the Minneapolis/St. Paul area to advise him personally on ethical issues.
The group has been enlarged to include physicians, healthcare professionals, academia, lawyers, priests and Archdiocesan staff who continue to advise the local ordinary on biomedical ethics issues. This Commission meets with Archbishop Nienstedt in April and October. The meeting follows a format of education and discussion on topics relevant to the area of biomedical ethics.
Development of a website for assistance to the people of the Archdiocese is a priority for the 2006-2007 year.
