Kujenga Youth RetreatKujenga is the Swahili word “to build.” For the Archdiocesan Commission of Black Catholics, it has been our purpose and goal “to build” community and provide leadership opportunities for Black youth since 1991. The focus of the retreat weekend is to provide young people, between the ages of 13 and 21, an intensive, Africentric experience of leadership training within the Roman Catholic tradition. The weekend is generally held on the third weekend of October, beginning Friday evening and ending by noon on Sunday. The weekend program consists of scheduled prayer, workshops, family group discussions, arts and crafts, music and dance, celebration of the sacrament of reconciliation, and Sunday Mass.
